On Waking Up

A New Perspective

I watched an amazing segment of an interview that got me thinking about life, gratitude, and waking up every day.

In the interview, the hosts mentioned they were on cloud 9. That nothing could disrupt their mental state and they were on top of the world. There was no way for them to come down (they'd recently gotten some good news).

Things were looking up after some dark days.

Their guest then posed a very important question to them.

You see, these hosts were also deal makers. They would often take investments worth 6-figures. Sometimes 7-figures if it worked out.

So their guest asked them something very important. He said:

"Let's say I gave you the million dollars. Let's scratch that and say it was 10-million." The hosts were perking up now. Paying close attention because they were warned that something big is coming.

"The catch is" he continued "you can't wake up the next day. Would you still take the money?"

Their demeanour was steadfast when they replied.

"Absolutely not. With all due respect absolutely not."

So this man stopped for a second and posed a second question.

"So let me get this straight. You're saying that waking up tomorrow is worth more than $10-million to you both."

Of course, they agreed.

His tone shifted slightly. Was louder, heightened.

"So if that's the case, every day is worth more than $10-million you. Why don't you feel this good every day??"

The hosts responded immediately that they hadn't seen it that way before. Most people don't. And that's the point.

People wake up complaining about their fitness, their money, their relationships, with all of it. But if we all stop and take a minute to remember that every day is worth so much to us, we'd be so happy every day.

And let's say that the day isn't as great as it could have been. We get a whole other day if we're lucky enough to wake up tomorrow. It's our chance to do it all again.

Waking is so much more than crawling out of bed and wasting our time. It's so much more. It's worth all the money in the world.

There's no need to complain. Every day is a gift. That's the whole point.

It's time to wake up.
